The Gezi Protests will be remembered for many things. One of the items high on the list will be the  degree of police brutality and disproportional violence. This being said, the government still feel that the police deserve a reward.

Hence, according to Zaman Newspaper, riot police who participated in the crackdowns in the provinces of İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Adana and Antalya on protesters objecting to the demolition of İstanbul’s Gezi Park are entitled to a bonus 24 times their net daily earnings — the highest bonus a police officer can receive — which corresponds to TL 1,000 on average for officers and TL 3,000 for chief officers.
